Rev. Fr. Arulselvam Rayappan was born on 18th November 1960 at Sathipattu near Panruti in the Archdiocese of Pondicherry – Cuddalore. He had his early education in Tindivanam and Cuddalore and pursued his graduation in Philosophy in Arulanandar College (Karumathur, Madurai). He obtained first rank in his BTH studies in St.Peter’s Pontifical Institute Bangalore. Ordained a priest on 20th May 1986 he ministered for four years in a few parishes (Cuddalore, Viriyur, Karaikal, and Kurumbagaram) in his native Archdiocese. He joined the staff of St. Peter’s Pontifical Seminary in June 1990 and later obtained Doctorate in Canon Law with Summa Cum Laude at the Pontifical Urban University Rome in 1994. He served as Vice Rector of St. Peter’s Pontifical Seminary from 2000 to 2006 and from 2010 onwards he is the President of St.Peter’s Pontifical Institute. He is the Executive Secretary of the Commission for Canon Law, Conference of Catholic Bishops of India. He is also serving as the President of Canon Law Society of India for a second term besides serving as Judge in Archdiocesan Tribunal of Pondicherry.
